"This year, care and the support for carers have been subjects of much debate in Westminster and in communities across the UK. Not only does Carers Week play an important role in increasing public recognition of the sacrifices and hard work of carers all over the country, it also makes a great contribution to the public debate on how best to support the six million people who care for vulnerable relatives or friends.
"I know that Carers Week is only possible due to the hard work and co-operation of numerous charitable organisations and I would like to congratulate them on what I'm sure will be a very successful week.
"I would also like to send my best wishes to all those participating in the thousands of events that will take place across Carers Week 2010, which I'm sure will be very successful."
